Harlequin’s Salt Wash:
– Harlequins SaltWash has been formulated for use on furniture and walls to create a distressed look. Creating this look is simpler than you would think. With our unique formulation, and step by step guide you too can be creating your own sun and salt layered look.
Preparation (Furniture):
– Ensure all surfaces are correctly prepared by removing all existing paint, varnish or coating by using chemical strippers or thoroughly sanding the substrate to a raw finish.
– Ensure the substrate is free from wax, grease or any other contaminants and ensure the surface is smooth to touch.
Preparation (Wall):
– Ensure all surfaces are clean and dry, remove any loose or flaking paint, and prime any raw walls with harlequins Plaster Primer (Not included in this listing, but can be bought separately).
Application:
– Using a brush apply your SaltWash (no dilution required) to the surface using a glob like technique pulling up the peaks of the SaltWash.
– Remember, this is a random technique and does not need to be uniform in any way.
– You will be left with a thick pealed finish.
– Once the SaltWash layer begins to dry (time may vary depending on temperature) gently knock down the peaks with a dry paintbrush.
– This will leave you a slightly smooth but textured surface.
– After your chosen SaltWash layer is completely dry (4-6 Hours) apply the SaltPaint topcoat (Not included in this listing, but can be bought separately), over the whole area.
– Once dry, use sandpaper or a palm sander to gently sand the surface smooth to create your authentic layered and weathered worn look.
– You can be quite a creative sanding more in some places than others and especially on corners or edges, where your piece of furniture would naturally wear.
– For additional durability apply 2 coats of Harlequins Easy Seal furniture sealer. (Not included, but can be bought separately).
Additional Information:
– Coverage: 4 to 6 sqm per litre per coat depending on the technique
– Size: 1 Liter
